Bed & Breakfast News

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We want to wish all our guests a happy and healthy new year!  We appreciate your business and look forward to your return when you visit Fredericksburg again.

WINTER!
You'll notice the winter pictures to prove it has arrived in Fredericksburg.  We had a wonderful December snow storm this year.  Nothing is prettier in snow than Fredericksburg!  We even had CNN cover Fredericksburg all day.  Reynolds Wolf and his crew were on William Street reporting the news with a gorgeous backdrop of St. George's Church.  He and the crew think Fredericksburg is wonderful.  The stars are still lit in our trees and First Night is this week.  Winter doesn't stop us, so, check out the city website at www.visitfred.com.  Paul and I will be happy to speak with you about your travel arrangements and offer assistance in planning your visit.  So contact grandparents to take care of the little ones and give us a call at The Schooler House.  We look forward to welcoming you to our home and Fredericksburg!

CIVIL WAR FREDERICKSBURG - THEN AND NOW.  Very exciting news in the city.  The Fredericksburg Civil War Round Table and the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust have collaborated on a wonderful DVD about the battle.  They spent 2 years compiling information of local accounts and historical artifacts.  This DVD has so much information for Civil War buffs who are interested in more than just the battle.  Proceeds for the sale are donated to the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust for battlefield land preservation.  This organization has helped save more than 8900 acres of battlefields in our local area.  There is a 1 Disc version ($14.95) with the feature and a 2 Disc version ($19.95) that includes research materials.  This 2 Disc version has amazing resource material for educators.

If you are interested in obtaining this DVD, I'd be happy to assist.  Just let me know which version you want.  There is no mark-up on the DVD and all proceeds go directly to the CVBT.  You may pick up your copy here at The Schooler House or if you are have visited and want to order, please send check to The Schooler House.  I will gladly ship at no charge.  The DVD is also available at Fredericksburg Area Museum, Fredericksburg Area National Park Book Stores, Grey Ghost Gallery, Amy's Cafe, and Fredericksburg Visitor Center at the same price.

This is a great stocking stuffer for the holidays.  Anyone interested in the  Civil War will love this DVD!

BOY SCOUT JAMBOREE!
The jamboree is coming next summer - July 26, 2010 through August 4, 2010.  Ft. A.P. Hill is not far from Fredericksburg and we've had a great time with Boy Scout parents in the past.  Willie's Room is available from July 25th through July 28th and Annie's Room has not been booked yet.

Don't hesitate to make your reservations; the town books up for this event.  It's a great event and we enjoy having Boy Scout parents with us during this time.  It's a great event and breakfast table conversation is never lacking!

OUR GUESTS HAVE TALENT!
A recent guest to The Schooler House Bed & Breakfast, Jack Clarfelt and his wife, Sandra, from England, enjoyed 5 nights in Fredericksburg. Every afternoon, Jack and Sandra would relax in the back yard and on the front porch. This is a sketch and watercolor that Jack did one afternoon. Obviously, Jack has talent!

OUR LITTLE POND EXPANSION.
Guests will notice a major change in the back yard.  The nice pond that was tucked into the corner of the yard was very nice.  However, it has been greatly expanded!  We like to think of if as A River Runs Through It!  The redesigned pond is very large with more fish and plants.  There is a little bridge that crosses the pond to the bench that remains for reading and relaxing.  Redesign of the landscaping is ongoing.  Look for updated pictures as we work toward completion of this very fun project.  Until then, please pardon our "dust".

DON'T FENCE ME IN!
I'm happy to announce that the wood picket fence in the front of the house is history!  In its place is an absolutely gorgeous wrought iron, victorian fence.  It is solid, has beautiful corner posts, and a wonderful gate with  the name and date of the house on a bronze plaque.  It just finishes off the house perfectly!   Please check out the pictures on the Photo Page!

Virginia Architectural Metals, local to
Fredericksburg, has fabricated this amazing piece.  Highly recommend Betsy and Mike; afterall, they actually have done a gate at the White House.  Great recommendations and a wonderful family!

TRIP ADVISOR.
We continue to receive lovely comments from our guests at www.tripadvisor.com.   Please take time to review, whenever or wherever you are traveling.  It's a great site to learn about your destination.  And, of course, Paul and I always appreciate any feedback provided.  We think our B&B is unique and our guests are just the best!

BEDANDBREAKFAST.COM.  Well, we've finally done it!  The Schooler House B&B is now registered on this web site; www.bedandbreakfast.com.  If you found us on this site and booked because of this site, we'd love to have feedback from you.  This is an experiment for now.  We've done well without the advertising and may decide to opt out if there isn't a measureable benefit.  In the meantime, we'll track our traffic.
